Carbon footprint and action plan!
Aware of the urgency of the situation, we decided in December 2023 to launch the establishment of our carbon footprint with the help of an independent expert, in order to build an action plan for the coming years. Together, we decided to carry out not only scope 1 and 2, but also our scope 3, basing our calculation hypotheses on a study Terra Provence carried out for one of its German customers in 2022 on the organic lavender sector: cultivation, distillation, etc.
The weeks spent within the company enabled our expert, on the one hand, to understand and know in detail all our activities in order to establish realistic and coherent hypotheses, and on the other hand, to involve each employee in his or her area of competence. This collaboration not only facilitated data collection, but also raised awareness of the approach among all staff.
The action plan was co-constructed with general management, as well as with all employees, in order to cross-reference the points of view of each position and thus improve the relevance and priorities of the action plan. A final presentation of the results of the carbon assessment and the validated action plan took place at the end of the appraisal, in the presence of all employees.
TERRA PROVENCE's carbon footprint in figures
As for all companies working with raw materials, scope 3 represents 84% according to the Bilan GES calculation or 97% of greenhouse gas emissions according to the GHG Protocol calculation.
The performance of Terra Provence's suppliers is therefore a major issue, confirming the need for mutual support, visits and encouragement towards our suppliers, so that together we can meet the challenges of global warming.
Freight is another important area for improvement, and an action plan has been in place since May 2024 to significantly reduce GHG emissions from this item.
